Installing Endpoint Secure on VDI template

Issue Description

Customer wants to implement VDI + ES on the new project and requests for proper method of implementing ES for the derived virtual machines from the template.


Error/Warning Information

Prerequisite

  1. A Windows template VM had been created on VDI.
  2. Downloaded the machineid removal tool. (Click here to download)

Handling Process

  1. Download and install the Endpoint Secure agent normally on the template VM.

  2. Go to ES Manager and disable the agent.

  3. Execute the machineid removal tool.
    Note:
    a) If it failed on the first run, try execute another time.

  4. Check on the following directory to see if the file ‘machineid’ exist.
    C:\Program Files\Sangfor\EDR\agent\config
    Note:
    a) If the file ‘machineid’ exist, try delete it manually.
    b) For Endpoint Secure version 3.5.36 and above, the file ‘machineid’ is stored under:
    C:\Program Files\SF\EDR\agent\config\

  5. Update the VDI template and proceed to derive virtual machines normally.


Suggestion

The reason of removing the ‘machineid’ file on the template VM is to prevent the derived virtual machines to have conflict with the template VM.
